“See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” – Hebrews 12:15 (NIV
Bitterness doesn’t start big — it begins as a small, subtle root buried deep in the soil of hurt, offense, or disappointment. Left unattended, that root grows, wraps itself around the heart, and eventually produces fruit that poisons not only our spirit but the relationships around us. Hebrews 12:15 warns us to be vigilant, both for ourselves and for others, so we don’t miss the grace of God by allowing resentment to take hold.
This devotional invites you to examine the hidden places of your heart and identify where unforgiveness, offense, or unhealed wounds might be taking root. Through God’s grace, we can pull up those roots, release the weight of bitterness, and live in the freedom Christ offers. When grace flows in, bitterness can’t survive.
📝 Reflection Questions:
- Is there a past hurt or offense that still stirs negative emotions when you think about it?
- How might bitterness have affected your relationship with God or others?
- What would it look like today to invite God’s grace into that area of your heart?
🙏🏻 Prayer:
Lord, allow me to bring all of my bitterness, rejection, anger, disappointments or anything else I may be dealing with at your feet. Renew and cleanse me Lord through your blood. I cannot carry this burden anymore. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
