God Is Not Distant—He Is a Defender of The Vulnerable and The Hurting
📖 Scripture:
“He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing” –Deuteronomy 10:18 (ESV)
🙌🏻 Devotional:
This verse reveals God’s heart for the vulnerable, the forgotten, and those who suffer because of injustice. He is not a distant God, but one who actively executes justice and demonstrates compassion. In the ancient world, widows, orphans, and foreigners were often the most powerless members of society—without protection, provision, or a voice. God declares that He Himself steps in to be their defender.
When we lose someone to injustice, it can feel as if the world has failed us. But this scripture reminds us that God’s justice is never delayed or denied in His eternal plan. Though human systems may falter, God Himself rises as the defender of the innocent and the vindicator of the wronged. He sees every tear, He hears every cry, and He acts with perfect righteousness.
For those grieving Charlie’s passing, this verse reassures that God’s heart is near. He has received Charlie into His eternal care, where injustice has no voice and suffering has no power. For the living, God calls us to reflect His compassion—to protect the weak, to speak for the voiceless, and to embody His love in tangible ways.

- In what ways can you reflect God’s heart by showing love and provision to those who feel powerless around you?
- How does knowing that God defends the vulnerable bring comfort in the face of loss?
🙏🏻 Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God of justice and compassion. In the face of injustice and grief, remind us that You are near to the brokenhearted and that Your justice will prevail. We entrust Charlie into Your eternal care, and we ask for Your comfort to surround his loved ones. Help us, Lord, to reflect Your heart for the vulnerable in our daily lives. Give us courage to stand for truth, compassion to love those in need, and faith to trust Your perfect timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
