Our God is The Same ; Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, and Forever

đź“– Scripture:

I am the Lord your God and I never change.” – Malachi 3:6

🙌🏻 Devotional:

The meaning of Malachi 3:6 is centered on God’s unchanging nature and His faithful covenant love:

  • “For I the Lord do not change” → God is declaring that His character, promises, and purposes remain the same. He is unchanging in holiness, justice, love, mercy, and truth. Unlike people or circumstances, God does not shift with time or culture.
  • “Therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed” → Despite Israel’s repeated disobedience and failures, God did not utterly destroy them. Why? Because He is faithful to His covenant and merciful toward His people. His unchanging nature ensures His patience and commitment to His promises.

In essence, this verse means that God’s unchanging character is the reason His people are preserved and not destroyed. His immutability is our security—because if God changed His mind or character, we could not depend on Him for salvation, forgiveness, or provision.

âť“ Reflection Questions

  1. How does knowing that God never changes give me peace in uncertain times?
  2. In what ways have I experienced God’s faithfulness despite my own shortcomings?
  3. Am I placing my trust in temporary things that shift, or in God who is unchanging?
  4. How can I reflect God’s faithfulness and steadiness in my relationships with others?
  5. What promise from God do I need to cling to today, remembering He never goes back on His Word?

🙏🏻 Prayer:

Lord, I thank You that You never change. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. While life feels uncertain and my own heart is often weak, You remain faithful. Thank You for Your mercy that keeps me from being consumed. Help me trust in Your unchanging promises, and anchor my hope in You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
