📖 Scripture:

“But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’” — Genesis 3:9 (NIV)

From the very beginning, pain and shame have tempted us to hide. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, their first instinct wasn’t confession—it was covering. They sewed fig leaves together, hid among the trees, and tried to disappear into the shadows of their guilt.

But God—rich in mercy—didn’t come into the garden with wrath in His voice.

He came with a question:“Where are you?”

God didn’t ask because He didn’t know. He asked because He wanted them to know.
To recognize the distance.
To confront the wound.
To expose what was hidden—not to shame them, but to heal them.

We do the same thing today.
We hide behind our smiles, our service, our work, even our faith language.
But beneath it all, there’s often unspoken pain—abuse, betrayal, rejection, unworthiness, failure, fear.
And just like in Eden, God still calls out:
“Where are you?”

He’s not trying to punish you.
He’s inviting you to come out of hiding.
To stop covering up the very place He wants to heal.

God is not afraid of your brokenness.
He’s not overwhelmed by your emotions.
He’s not disgusted by what you’ve been through or what you’ve done.
He is a healer, not a condemner.

But healing begins with exposure.
What we hide, we keep in the dark.
But what we bring to God, we bring into the light—where grace, truth, and transformation live.

🕊️ Reflection Questions:

  1. What area of pain have I been hiding from God, myself, or others?
  2. In what ways do I cover up or avoid dealing with that hurt?
  3. How would my life change if I fully exposed this to God and allowed Him to begin healing it?

📝 Prayer:

“Lord, You already know what’s hidden in my heart. Today, I stop running. I stop hiding. I bring my wounds, my shame, and my pain into the light of Your presence. Search me, find me, and heal me. I trust You with what hurts. Amen.”

📌 Devotional Truth:

God doesn’t ask, “Where are you?” to condemn you — He asks to restore you.
